Privacy Policy

Workrate is built to keep your data on your device. This policy explains what the Workrate mobile app and this website do — and don't — collect.

Workrate is operated by Hlynur Stefánsson, an individual developer based in Reykjavík, Iceland, who is the data controller for the processing described here. You can reach us at support@getworkrate.app.

The short version

• Your workouts, strategies, tags, and notes are stored locally on your device. We don't have a server that holds them.
• There are no accounts and no first-party backend — nothing to sign up for, nothing to log into.
• The app sends anonymous usage analytics (PostHog) that you can turn off in Settings, and anonymous crash reports (Sentry).
• Purchases are handled by Apple or Google, and RevenueCat verifies them so Pro unlocks.
• The app never collects your name or location. It only gets an email address if you choose to add one to in-app feedback. We don't sell data or use it for advertising.

The mobile app

Workout data stays on your device

Everything you create in Workrate — your rep goals, time budgets, generated pacing strategies, workout results, session tags, and notes — is saved on your device's local storage. It is never transmitted to us, because we operate no server that could receive it. If you delete the app, that data is removed with it.

No accounts, no tracking

Workrate has no login, no user profiles, and no first-party backend. The app contains no advertising SDKs and does not track you across other apps or websites.

Anonymous usage analytics (PostHog)

To understand how the app is used and improve it, Workrate sends anonymous usage events to PostHog, hosted in the EU — for example that onboarding was completed or a workout was started or finished, along with structural details such as round counts. Events are tied to a random identifier generated on your device, not to your identity, and never include your notes or other free text. You can turn this off at any time in Settings → Share anonymous usage data. See PostHog's privacy policy.

Crash reports (Sentry)

If the app crashes or hits an error, a crash report is sent to Sentry so we can fix it. Reports contain technical details — the error, the app version, and your device model and OS version. We configure Sentry not to collect your IP address. Reports carry a random installation identifier that the Sentry SDK generates on your device, not linked to you, so we can tell how many devices an error affects. See Sentry's privacy policy.

In-app feedback (Sentry)

If you choose to send feedback from the app, the message you write and, only if you enter one, your email address are sent to Sentry User Feedback, along with the same technical details as a crash report. We use them to read your feedback and, if you left an email, to reply. Nothing is sent unless you tap Send. To have feedback you sent deleted, email support@getworkrate.app.

App updates (Expo)

When the app starts, it checks Expo's update service for bug fixes we've published. Each check sends the app version, your platform, and a random identifier generated for this installation, not linked to you, which Expo uses to deliver the right update and keep the service reliable. Like any request over the internet, Expo's servers see your device's IP address when delivering it. See Expo's privacy policy.

Purchases (RevenueCat, Apple, Google)

Workrate Pro is an optional one-time purchase. Purchases are handled by the App Store or Google Play, and we use RevenueCat to manage entitlements (to know whether you have unlocked Pro). For this, RevenueCat processes an anonymous app-user identifier and your purchase and receipt data from Apple or Google. This is used only to unlock and validate Pro features. We do not receive your name, email, or payment-card details — Apple and Google handle the transaction itself under their own privacy policies. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.

This website

Cookieless analytics

We measure aggregate traffic on this site (page views, referrers, country) using a cookieless, privacy-friendly analytics tool. It does not set cookies, does not track you across sites, and does not build an individual profile. Because of that, there is no cookie consent banner to click.

The beta signup

If you sign up for the beta, we first email you a link to confirm the address is yours. Once you confirm, we store the email address you enter with our email provider, Resend, to email you about beta access, launch, and important Workrate updates.

The form also sends your platform (iOS, Android, or either), whether you're willing to send feedback, and, if you fill them in, what you mostly train, your current score, and how you found Workrate. Once you confirm, these details and your email address are sent through Resend to our support inbox (support@getworkrate.app) so we can choose beta testers and get in touch with you.

We don't sell or share any of it, and you can ask us to remove it at any time by contacting support@getworkrate.app.

Your rights

We process analytics, crash, and update data based on our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and improving it, purchase data to provide what you bought, and feedback and beta signup details because you chose to send them to us. Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data about you, to object to or restrict its processing, and to complain to a data protection authority — in Iceland, Persónuvernd. Because the app's analytics are anonymous, the simplest way to stop them is the Settings toggle; to have feedback or beta signup details deleted, or for anything else, email support@getworkrate.app.

Children

Workrate is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new “last updated” date.
